From the recording Borrowed Time
The new single from Bomethius features singer-songwriter Jonathan Hodges teaming up with his sister, Caroline, for a haunting duet. As they dive into the nightmares of internal dialogue and family strife, the siblings’ voices drift and blend atop a dreamy meld of guitars, synths, trumpet, and upright bass. It’s a kind of elegy for wounded souls — a slow burn that eventually erupts into the spectral strains of Caroline’s closing refrain — and a promising sign of the things to come for Bomethius in 2024.
Lyrics
Awful smug for a rebel
Who's been had
But you don’t stand a chance in my world
You don’t stand a chance with that girl
Such a loser
Who’d believe that I birthed ya'
He’s not going anywhere
Don’t you know that I own you?
I’ve sealed the wax of your minds
What’s that you’re reading?
We bought the bed where you sleep
You don’t stand a chance in my world
You don’t stand a chance with that girl
You’re living on borrowed time
You’re laughing on borrowed time
You’re living on my time
'til you’re not, 'til you're not
He’s not going anywhere
Don’t you know that I own you?
I’ve sealed the wax of their minds
We love our children
We love our children
We love our children
We love our children
You're fine, you're fine
You're fine, you're fine
‘Til we don’t
‘Til we don’t
‘Til we don’t
